• Several years of professional experience in an internationally oriented corporate intellectual property department or in a leading patent law firm serving industrial clients.
• Proven experience in patent drafting, prosecution, opposition, appeal, and other contentious proceedings.
• Qualification as a national Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney.
• Strong understanding of complex technologies and a genuine interest in future-focused areas such as software-defined vehicles, electromobility, autonomous driving, artificial intelligence, connected mobility solutions, and advanced engineering systems.
• University degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a comparable technical discipline.
• Excellent analytical and strategic thinking skills combined with sound business judgment.
• Ability to communicate complex technical and legal matters clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience managing international patent portfolios and collaborating across multiple jurisdictions, cultures, and disciplines.
• Excellent written and spoken English and German language skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to thrive in a highly international and multidisciplinary environment.
• A strong commitment to quality, coupled with a solid understanding of the commercial and strategic objectives of a global industrial intellectual property organization.

In this role, you will work at the forefront of these technological developments and play a key role in securing and strengthening TRATON’s innovation leadership through strategic intellectual property protection. While employed by an external service provider, the position is strongly functionally aligned with MAN Truck & Bus SE and is dedicated to supporting projects, innovation activities, and strategic initiatives of the Global IP Community of TRATON SE as well as of MAN Truck & Bus SE. You will collaborate closely with engineers, innovators, patent professionals, and decision-makers across the TRATON Group as well as MAN Truck & Bus SE and contribute to the protection and development of technologies that will define the future of commercial transportation.

Your Responsibilities
• Partner with innovators, engineers, and management within TRATON Group R&D and MAN Truck & Bus SE to identify, develop, and protect innovative technologies from invention disclosure to granted patent.
• Proactively identify opportunities and risks within the global intellectual property landscape and translate them into actionable business and IP strategies.
• Advise inventors, project teams, and decision-makers across the international TRATON Group R&D organization and MAN Truck & Bus SE on all aspects of intellectual property and patent law.
• Drive and support inventor engagement and employee invention programs, including the assessment of invention disclosures and the coordination of inventor remuneration processes in close collaboration with inventors, R&D management, HR, and other stakeholders.
• Support the development and implementation of patent strategies that safeguard and strengthen technological leadership.
• Manage and further develop international patent portfolios in key technology areas such as electromobility, battery systems, software, connectivity, vehicle automation, digital services, or advanced commercial vehicle technologies.
• Independently conduct patent prosecution proceedings before the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA), the European Patent Office (EPO), and other patent authorities worldwide.
• Steer and coordinate opposition, appeal, nullity, and other contentious patent proceedings at national and international level, working closely with external patent attorneys and legal advisors to develop and implement effective protection and enforcement strategies.
• Monitor and analyze third-party intellectual property rights and perform freedom-to-operate, validity, and infringement assessments.
• Support technology collaborations, research projects, licensing activities, and strategic partnerships from an IP perspective.
• Coordinate and manage external patent attorneys and law firms worldwide to ensure high-quality and cost-effective patent protection.
• Contribute to the implementation of the global intellectual property strategy of TRATON SE and support strategic decision-making regarding intellectual property risks and opportunities.
