Your responsibilities

• Lead civil engineering design for water and wastewater treatment works, including structures such as tanks, chambers, buildings, bunds, foundations, and site civil layouts.
• Develop optioneering, feasibility assessments, outline designs, and detailed designs for non-infrastructure assets.
• Produce, review, and approve technical deliverables including calculations, drawings, design reports, specifications, and design risk registers.
• Coordinate and integrate inputs from process, mechanical, electrical, geotechnical, environmental and structural specialists.
• Ensure designs comply with UK water industry standards, building regulations, CDM requirements, and relevant health and safety legislation.
• Provide mentoring, technical guidance and quality assurance for junior engineers and multidisciplinary design teams.
• Engage with clients, stakeholders, and contractors to ensure coordinated design development and smooth project progression.
• Support project planning, work breakdown structures, cost estimation and bid/proposal development.
• Champion low-carbon design, buildability, value engineering, and digital delivery (BIM Level 2).

Our requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline.
• Chartered (CEng MICE) or near-chartered with strong progress towards professional qualification.
• Proven experience delivering non-infrastructure design projects in the UK water sector.
• Strong technical knowledge of civil structures, reinforced concrete design principles, and treatment process-related structures.
• Proficiency in relevant design tools (e.g., Civil 3D, CAD, structural analysis software) and digital collaboration platforms.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to lead design workstreams.
• Minimum years of service : 5 years preferred 7 years.

Optional

• Experience working on AMP7/AMP8 programmes or with major UK water companies.
• Familiarity with industrial buildings design, temporary works considerations, and 3D modelling/BIM requirements.
• Understanding of sustainability considerations, embodied carbon calculations, and resilience planning.
• Knowledge of NEC contracts and construction delivery phases.
