Senior Application Architect

Senior Application Architect Project We are looking for a Senior Application Architect to join an international Digital Document Management team and take ownership of the system-level architecture of a critical enterprise document service. The role focuses on designing scalable, secure and highly available backend solutions, supporting integrations with an enterprise data platform and working closely with architects, developers, product managers and DevSecOps teams. Key Facts Location: Warsaw / European time zone Work model: Remote Travel: Occasional travel within Europe Language: Fluent English Experience: 8–12+ years in IT, including 3–4+ years in an Architect role Your Responsibilities Own and evolve the system-level architecture of backend components. Design new components, integrations and technical solutions with focus on scalability, availability, security and performance. Translate solution architecture into clear technical designs and development tasks. Ensure architectural consistency across the digital document services landscape. Work closely with Solution Architects, Lead Developers, Product Managers, BAs and development teams. Define and maintain system design and interface documentation. Support security-by-design and architectural best practices. Mentor developers on clean architecture, design patterns, cloud-native and microservices. Review technical designs, implementation approaches and technical debt. Collaborate with DevSecOps, DBAs, Network and Testing teams to resolve technical and operational issues. Support performance testing and analyse observability data to drive continuous improvement. Technology Stack Backend: Java, Spring Boot, gRPC Databases: PostgreSQL, MongoDB Caching: Redis Messaging: Confluent Kafka, Kafka Streams Cloud: AWS / Azure Containers: Docker, Kubernetes CI/CD: Azure DevOps, AWS Infrastructure as Code: Terraform Security: Keycloak Load Balancing: NGINX Monitoring: ELK, Prometheus Tools: Jira, Confluence Requirements 8–12+ years of overall IT / software engineering experience. 3–4+ years in a Technical Architect / Software Architect / Application Architect role. Strong experience with backend architecture and microservices. Good understanding of cloud-native architectures, Docker and Kubernetes. Hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot. Experience with relational and NoSQL databases and database performance. Strong understanding of system integrations and interface design. Knowledge of architectural patterns such as Domain-Driven Design, Event-Driven Architecture and CQRS. Experience with CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code. Understanding of application monitoring, logging and observability. Experience working in Agile development environments with Jira/Confluence. University degree in Computer Science, IT or equivalent experience. Fluent written and spoken English. Strong communication skills and experience working in international, cross-cultural teams. Nice to Have Experience in digital document management or enterprise document services. Experience with logistics, transportation or other complex enterprise environments. Familiarity with large-scale data platforms and their architectural dependencies. Experience acting as a technical/domain SME. Experience working with distributed international development teams.
