Chief Accountant

We are looking for an experienced Chief Accountant to take full ownership of accounting, tax compliance, statutory reporting, and finance operations for the Polish entity. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer and Management Board, this role combines operational accounting leadership with involvement in finance process improvements, compliance, reporting, and business support.

Location: close to Tarnowo Podgórne

Company: medium-sized retail company.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and coordinate all accounting, tax, treasury, and statutory reporting activities.
• Manage month-end and year-end closing processes.
• Prepare statutory financial statements and ensure compliance with Polish accounting regulations.
• Oversee VAT, CIT, WHT, and other tax reporting obligations.
• Coordinate external audits and cooperate with auditors, tax advisors, legal advisors, and public authorities.
• Monitor cash flow, liquidity, and banking operations.
• Review and supervise accounting transactions and payroll-related postings.
• Coordinate transfer pricing documentation and intercompany processes.
• Act as SAP Key User and support finance systems and digitalization initiatives.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting activities.
• Develop and supervise a small accounting team while ensuring effective internal controls and finance processes.

Requirements:

• Previous experience as a Chief Accountant or similar senior accounting position.
• University degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
• Experience working within an international environment and cooperating with Group Finance functions.
• Strong knowledge of Polish accounting standards and tax regulations.
• Experience in preparing financial statements and managing statutory audits.
• Practical experience with taxes, and tax compliance matters.
• Good level of English, both spoken and written.
• Experience with SAP is highly preferred.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.
• Experience in M&A projects will be considered as strong asset.
