Job Description

Reports to: Special Education Director

The Role of an ARD Manager in an ARD meeting: An ARD committee manager is a staff member who facilitates or leads ARD committee meetings and helps meet local, state, and federal guidelines for students being considered for or receiving special education and related services.

General Responsibilities

  • Scheduling and mailing notices for ARD committee meetings
  • Gathering relevant student data, such as grades, attendance, behavior reports, progress monitoring data, universal screening results, previous and current evaluation reports
  • Preparing and finalizing required ARD committee paperwork
  • Facilitating the ARD committee meeting
  • Sending completed Individualized Education Program (IEP) documents to the parents or guardians and archiving in accordance with LEA procedures
  • Supporting families and school personnel with special education questions
  • Assisting classroom teachers with understanding and documenting the receipt of students’ IEP paperwork
  • Complying with requirements established by federal and state law, state board of education (SBOE) rules, local board policies, and special education operating procedures

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education
  • Valid special education certification

Necessary Knowledge and Skills

  • A general knowledge of special education policy and procedure, as well as state and federal guidelines for the requirements of serving special education students
  • Draft/prepare and complete the IEP paperwork for each student based on individual needs in accordance with district procedures
  • Excellent organizational, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Highly effective customer service skills
  • Knowledge of ARD processes and IEP development
  • Effective collaboration skills in working with the education team
  • Ability to exercise good judgement in decision making skills in a calm and collaborative manner
  • Skilled in building and maintaining human relationships, conflict resolution strategies and procedures, and team building methods and techniques

Experience

  • Experience working in education

Major Responsibilities

  • Schedule, reschedule as needed, and draft/prepare paperwork for all ARD meetings assigned. This includes creating the calendar invitations and ARD preparation forms for staff as well as providing parents/adult students with the required ARD meeting invitation notices and procedural safeguards.
  • Support the ARD committee regarding the development of IEPs, including completing all necessary components of a student’s IEP.
  • Meet all federal, state, and district timeline requirements for annual and initial ARD meetings.
  • Ensure all federal, state, and district processes and requirements are met when conducting ARD meetings.
  • Ensure accuracy for PEIMS coding such as instructional arrangements, ESCE locator codes, and dyslexia codes in IEP paperwork when conducting ARD meetings and IEP amendments.
  • Ensure deliberations during ARD meetings accurately reflect the conversations that led the committee to the decisions made.
  • Create prior written notice following an IEP meeting and ensure all signatures and paperwork is processed completely at the end of the IEP meeting.
  • Assist with filing required documents in the student’s eligibility folder.
  • Attend student staffing meetings, as needed.
  • Review ARD preparation forms prior to IEP meeting to ensure alignment with the TEA Standards-Based IEP training and communicate according to district procedures.
  • Follow district procedures to provide relevant sections of the IEP to those who have an education need to know.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Engages in continuing professional development by assessing one’s own needs to stay abreast of current trends, knowledge, and strategies regarding ARD processes and IEP Development.
  • Maintains knowledge of Federal rules and regulations regarding employment, child labor, as well as wage and hour requirements.
