Software Engineer (Backend)

Job Description

The Data Protection Team is looking for a software engineer who shares our desire to build great products for our customers. We believe that the team should be a place where we can learn and grow by sharing experiences and knowledge. We are developing and maintaining large‑scale components of Zendesk products that focus on the privacy and protection of customer data.

Responsibilities

• Follow best engineering practices when developing and maintaining Zendesk systems in the area of customer data privacy and protection.
• Write, test, and maintain code used by millions of people worldwide.
• Continually improve your and your colleagues’ code through peer review, pair programming, and knowledge sharing.
• Learn and use AI every day as a tool to facilitate your work and ship the new product faster.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• 2+ years of experience writing commercial backend code.
• Proficiency in at least one of Ruby, Java, or Python, and a desire to learn other languages.
• Basic understanding of front‑end technologies, relational databases, and key‑value data stores.
• Strong appreciation for application development, testing, refactoring, and agile practices.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in distributed teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with modern, highly available, distributed systems.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, and messaging queues such as Kafka or SQS.
• A degree in Computer Science or a related field (considered an asset).
• Experience working in a SaaS company.

Work Environment

The role is hybrid: you will work remotely for part of the week and must attend the Kraków office two days a week. The hybrid model is designed to provide onsite collaboration and learning while offering flexibility.
