For our Client, a leading international engineering contractor, we are recruiting for the position of:

Senior Mechanical Quantity Surveyor

Location: Galway, Ireland

Your responsibilities

As Senior Mechanical Quantity Surveyor, you will take commercial ownership of the mechanical scope on a major pharmaceutical project—from early-stage commercial planning through to final account.

Your responsibilities will include:

• managing project budgets, cost plans, BOQs and commercial forecasts;

• monitoring commercial performance and reporting to project leadership;

• managing subcontractor accounts, interim valuations and final accounts;

• preparing monthly applications, including remeasurements, variations, dayworks and contractual claims;

• pricing and agreeing project changes with clients and subcontractors;

• identifying commercial risks and supporting effective mitigation measures;

• managing payment certificates, retention arrangements and contractual obligations;

• working closely with project and planning teams to align cost, progress and programme;

• maintaining accurate commercial records and supporting documentation;

• attending commercial meetings and negotiating with clients and their representatives;

• supporting the successful agreement and closure of the project final account.

Requirements

We are looking for candidates who have:

• a qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics or a related discipline;

• proven experience as a Mechanical Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor;

• experience delivering large-scale construction, engineering or MEP projects;

• pharmaceutical or life sciences project experience—highly advantageous;

• strong knowledge of cost control, contract administration and commercial reporting;

• experience managing subcontractor accounts, valuations, variations and claims;

• confidence working directly with clients and senior project stakeholders;

• strong negotiation, communication and record-keeping skills;

• excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities;

• a proactive and commercially focused approach.
