SATCOM Electronics Technician - Diego Garcia

Responsibilities

  • The SATCOM Electronics Technician is responsible for setting‑up, packing, configuring, operating, and maintaining satellite terminals (fixed and tactical) along with associated assemblies and providing technical assistance and training to users.
  • Serves as a hands‑on, working shift for configuration, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of SATCOM terminals.
  • Installs equipment according to manufacturer’s specifications, interprets maintenance manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams, and repairs equipment using standard test instruments and hand tools.
  • Conveys information with customers, co‑workers, or supervisors about equipment configuration and provides instruction on operation of equipment.
  • Consults with unit co‑workers to resolve unusual problems in system operation and maintenance.
  • May advise management regarding customer satisfaction, product performance, and suggestions for product improvements.
  • Assists co‑workers in servicing and repairing SATCOM related equipment and/or items.
  • Assists in preparation of reports, correspondence, or technical studies.
  • Consults with engineering personnel to resolve unusual problems in system operation and maintenance.
  • Leads testing, tuning, and adjusting equipment to obtain optimum operating performance.
  • Performs general housekeeping duties in support of a safe working environment.
  • Performs all other position related duties, as assigned or requested.
  • Provides on‑call support as needed 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Within the last four years, at least two years of specialized experience directly related to satellite communications facility operations.
  • Within the last three years, at least two years of specialized experience in the theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic theory and of diagnosing, isolating, and correcting malfunctions and performing organizational‑level maintenance on communications and electronic equipment.
  • Familiar with current global, U.S., Program, and PWS requirements.
  • Excellent organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. passport and driver’s license throughout employment.
  • Ability to successfully pass PACOM medical requirements and maintain those requirements for the duration of deployment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Government Clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.

Work Environment

The assignment location is the island of DiegoGarcia. Responsibilities may require long periods of standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Candidates must be able to lift, carry, and push supplies and boxes up to 50pounds. The work environment may be remote and uncomfortable, and the role may involve a typical office setting.

  • Participate in safety training and activities, comply with emergency response tasks, and serve on safety committees and teams.
  • Adhere to the company Quality Policy and carry out job activities in compliance with applicable quality system documents and customer contracts.
  • Read, understand, and implement general and specific operational, safety, quality, and environmental requirements of all applicable plans, procedures, and policies.
