Project Overview:

Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility.

 

This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland’s nuclear base and build a strong and long-lasting energy future for generations to come. This position is subject to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regulations at 10 CFR Part 810 (Part 810), which govern the transfer of hardware, materials, and technology to support the construction and operation of commercial nuclear power plants overseas.

Job Summary:

As an experienced Lead Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the delivery of the electrical design for one of the world's most advanced nuclear power plants.

 

You'll lead a multidisciplinary team of electrical engineers and designers while collaborating with international engineering specialists, clients, contractors and Polish design partners. This is a highly visible leadership role where your technical expertise will directly influence project delivery, quality and engineering excellence.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of electrical engineers and designers, fostering collaboration and technical excellence.
  • Plan, prioritise and coordinate engineering activities to meet project milestones.
  • Review and approve electrical designs, calculations, studies and technical documentation.
  • Develop electrical designs for high-voltage and medium-voltage systems across the project.
  • Coordinate engineering interfaces with other disciplines, clients, vendors, construction teams and subcontractors.
  • Review and manage deliverables prepared by Polish engineering partners.
  • Ensure designs comply with Polish regulations, European standards, IEC requirements and project specifications.
  • Support engineering planning, staffing and resource forecasting.
  • Provide technical leadership during design reviews and resolve complex engineering challenges.
  • Support construction and commissioning teams by resolving technical issues during project execution.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement across the engineering team.

 

Technical Responsibilities

You will provide technical leadership across a broad range of electrical engineering activities, including:

  • Permitting and derogations inputs
  • Electrical system studies and calculations
  • Equipment sizing
  • Cable sizing and routing
  • Earthing and lightning protection systems
  • Lighting system design
  • Underground electrical distribution
  • Switchyard design
  • Single-line and three-line diagrams
  • Wiring and control logic diagrams
  • System descriptions and specifications
  • Material requisitions
  • Design reviews
  • High-voltage systems from 230V through 400kV

 

You'll also apply Bechtel engineering procedures alongside Polish, IEC and international design standards to deliver safe, high-quality engineering solutions.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires university degree in electrical or other engineering discipline and 8-10 years of relevant power generation experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Licensed Professional Design Engineer (Poland) - Electrical engineer authorised to independently perform technical design tasks in construction, with experience in designing electrical and power installations. Holds unrestricted building qualifications in the electrical specialty and is a registered member of the Polish Chamber of Civil Engineers (PIIB)
  • Strong leadership capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written at level of B2 or better and Polish C2/Native language level.
  • Highly collaborative, with the ability to work effectively across disciplines and within team environments.
  • Extensive knowledge and application of Polish laws, European regulations, and industry and regulatory codes and standards supporting design and/or layout criteria pertinent to the particular discipline.
  • Experience with developing permitting design drawings and requirements in Poland.
  • Ability to utilize engineering and office automation tools effectively.
  • Previous hands-on or extensive working knowledge with ETAP and other industry-wide electrical system design tools, such as CAD 2D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD), cable designing and routing software.
  • Knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods, materials, and computers in the discipline.
  • Knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods.
  • Deep understanding of industrial electrical systems, including schematics, equipment layouts, and system calculations in power generation facilities.
  • Proficient in engineering drawings and calculations including minimum 5 years equipment sizing, cable sizing, earthing system, lighting system, underground distribution, switchyard design, arc-flash safety and lightning protection system in Poland.
  • Experience working with utility companies and/or Transmission System Operator (TSO) Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE) Grid Codes (such as IRiESP, NCR_FG, and others).

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with ISO 9001 quality management systems and NQA-1 quality assurance requirements.
  • Construction field experience in power generation, nuclear, or petrochemical facilities.
  • Chartered Electrical Engineer registration with the Polish Chamber of Civil Engineers.
  • Experience with 110 kV and above power transmission and distribution systems, including steam turbine power generation facilities.
  • Experience in fire detection and alarm system design.
  • Experience in Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system design and integration.
  • Experience in power system protection, relay coordination, and protection system management.
  • Experience with electrical design development, permitting, and regulatory approval processes in Poland.
