Boat Engineer

Job Overview

Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services serving the U.S. government, allies, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking a Boat Engineer to support a unique U.S. Navy program based on the island of Diego Garcia.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research and tests to inform the design and construction of marine vehicles and equipment.
• Prepare technical reports such as research, systems diagnostics, and design analysis documentation.
• Present layout and engineering designs to clients and team members for analysis and feedback.
• Supervise all aspects of the design process for structural, mechanical, and electrical systems.
• Oversee the construction of marine vessels and equipment to ensure their quality and integrity.
• Perform quality control inspections and tests on all systems and equipment, and install upgrades as needed.
• Ensure adherence to safety precautions and project timelines.
• Train and supervise engineering teams, including designers, mechanics, and construction staff.
• Perform maintenance on marine vehicles and equipment.
• Investigate and diagnose technical issues and implement effective repairs.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in marine engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of four years’ experience as a marine engineer or similar.
• Experience with engineering design software such as AutoCAD, Rhino 3D, and SOLIDWORKS.
• Sound knowledge of maritime software such as HMI and PLC control systems.
• Valid passport with at least one (1) year of validity at time of hire and ability to travel internationally.
• Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain them for the duration of deployment.
• Ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.

Preferred Qualifications

• Relevant U.S. Coast Guard engineer license.
• Professional engineer (PE) certification.
• Experience with a variety of engineering processes, including mechanical, electrical, and software.
• Familiarity with maritime HM&E systems and naval construction processes.
• Previous work experience in an austere OCONUS environment with a multi‑national workforce.
• Excellent organizational, time‑management, and customer‑service skills.
• Valid country driver’s license.
• Country visa as required under the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
