Environmental Manager - Diego Garcia

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that operations adhere to the goals and policies of the Environmental Management System and sustainability requirements.
  • Develop, implement and monitor environmental strategies, policies and programs that promote sustainable development.
  • Examine contract activities to identify improvement opportunities and ensure compliance with environmental legislation.
  • Supervise and perform environmentally focused support services, investigations, and analyses.
  • Ensure compliance with the Performance Work Statement (PWS), Amentum ISO 9001 Quality Management System, installation’s Environmental Management System (EMS) goals and policy, Diego Garcia Environmental Final Governing Standards, B.I.O.T. requirements and all applicable federal, host nation and local regulations.
  • Coordinate all environmental protection matters with the U.S. Government representative.
  • Manage staff and resources for the environmental management function.
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support customer initiatives and directives.
  • Oversee the annual self‑assessment for compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with permits, monitoring, records keeping, reporting, training, inspections, data collection and hazardous waste activities.
  • Review and assess the impacts of existing and proposed regulations and develop procedures for new or changing regulations.
  • Direct the development of training, environmental outreach and pollution prevention programs.
  • Be available within 30 minutes to meet with government personnel and/or program leadership as required, 24hours/day, 7days/week.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Chemistry from a U.S. or U.K. accredited college or university.
  • At least ten (10) years of experience in job‑related responsibilities on a government contract or at a military installation, including hazardous waste operations, medical waste management, and hazardous spill prevention, response and cleanup; or in a closely related field with exposure to EPA, DOT and other regulatory agencies.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations, federal laws and policy applicable to operations similar to this contract.
  • Three years’ experience in a supervisory role in an austere OCONUS environment with a multi‑national workforce.
  • Familiarity with current global, U.S., program and Performance Work Statement requirements such as EPA, DOT and other regulatory agencies.
  • Excellent organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. passport and driver’s license throughout employment.
  • Ability to successfully pass PACOM medical requirements and maintain the necessary medical status for the duration of deployment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Government Clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Work may involve standing for eight to ten hours, bending, kneeling, and reaching. The employee may need to lift, carry, and push supplies and boxes up to 50pounds. The assignment location may be remote and uncomfortable, with long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions. The employee may also work in a typical office environment.
