Java Software Engineer

Division: Group Business Solutions (GBS)

Euroclear is migrating the CREST system from legacy applications running on the HPE NonStop Guardian platform to cloud-ready technology running in an OpenShift-managed Kubernetes container platform. This migration will be an incremental process over a period of years and will incorporate new and improvements to the existing functionality rather than be a straight “lift and shift”. Note that experience of HPE NonStop Guardian is not required.

Our new technology will be Java based and use Event Hub technology (such as Kafka) for integration between the new migrated services and non-migrated legacy CREST system.

We are seeking a Java Software Engineer with awareness of Kafka and Docker to join our Transformation journey.

Responsibilities & Duties

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Working as part of an Agile development team to deliver migration of legacy application to new event based and service-oriented architecture solution working in collaboration with the Solution Architect, Technical Lead, CREST application architects and other collaborators.

Delivering a coherent end-to-end IT solution that meets both functional and non-functional requirements.

Ensuring that the solution meets guidelines and standards for design and development.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable solutions design and development skills and experience alongside validated strong systems development experience at all stages of the software delivery lifecycle.

Technical Skills:

• Knowledge of Object-Oriented Design principles
• Experience of developing services/micro-services in Java
• Experience of developing with SQL
• Knowledge of and preferably hands-on experience of containers/Docker
• Awareness of the Kafka ecosystem
• Awareness of Event-Driven Architecture principles
• Awareness of Behaviour Driven and Test-Driven Development principles and skills

Soft Skills:

• Be a stand-out colleague and role model, willing to participate in peer reviews and to be reviewed by peers
• Be reliable, determined and able to work independently
• Possess encouraging communication and presentation skills to present proposals both orally and in writing
• Have the demonstrable ability to complete work within agreed timescales
• Strong communication skills in written and spoken English

The following are not essential but would be a plus if the candidate can demonstrate any experience of:

• Working in an Agile development team
• Database design skills in technologies such as Oracle
• DevOps' principles, processes and tooling
• OpenShift
• Kafka

The Group Business Solutions (GBS) division ensures the competitiveness of Euroclear by delivering reliable and sustainable IT solutions for the financial securities markets. Our technical teams deliver new IT solutions and improve existing applications for both our internal and external clients. We deploy changes into the production environment in a controlled and structured way that doesn't compromise production stability and we ensure applicative production support.
