About the project

We are looking for an experienced Lead Java Developer to join an international engineering team building modern digital solutions for the travel and aviation industry.

You will take a leading role in designing and developing scalable backend solutions supporting digital customer journeys, online booking, travel management and additional services. You will combine hands-on development with technical leadership, helping shape architecture, engineering practices and the growth of the team.

Your responsibilities

• Leading the design and development of scalable backend applications using Java
• Taking ownership of technical solutions, architecture decisions and engineering standards
• Designing and developing REST APIs, integrations and distributed systems
• Working with microservices architecture and cloud-based solutions
• Driving technical discussions, code reviews and knowledge sharing across the team
• Mentoring and supporting other engineers, helping them grow technically
• Collaborating closely with Product, Frontend, QA, DevOps and other technical teams
• Ensuring reliability, scalability and maintainability of delivered solutions
• Contributing to improving development processes, engineering practices and overall product quality

Our requirements

• 7+ years of professional experience in backend software development
• Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring / Spring Boot
• Solid experience designing and developing REST APIs
• Practical experience with microservices architecture
• Experience with relational databases and data modelling
• Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns and engineering best practices
• Experience taking ownership of complex technical solutions from design to production
• Experience mentoring engineers or acting as a technical leader within a team
• Good understanding of testing practices, CI/CD and modern software delivery processes
• Good command of English
• Ability to work independently, make technical decisions and drive solutions forward

Optional

• Experience working in the travel, aviation or e-commerce industry
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP
• Knowledge of event-driven architecture and messaging systems (e.g. Kafka)
• Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience working with AI-powered solutions, including integrating LLM-based features, AI APIs or AI-assisted development tools
• Interest in applying AI to improve engineering productivity and software delivery
• Experience working in international, distributed engineering teams
