Your responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of LV and HV electrical systems, motor control centres (MCCs), power distribution, standby generation, and control systems for water and wastewater treatment works.
• Develop electrical designs from feasibility and concept through outline and detailed design stages, ensuring alignment with client specifications, UK water industry standards, and relevant legislation.
• Produce and review technical deliverables including single line diagrams, load schedules, cable calculations, control philosophies, specifications, datasheets, hazardous area assessments, and design risk assessments.
• Coordinate with process, mechanical, civil and ICA engineers to ensure fully integrated MEICA solutions.
• Support development of site layouts for electrical equipment, cable routing strategies, earthing/bonding requirements, and equipment access arrangements.
• Ensure compliance with UK standards and regulations including BS 7671, IEC standards, CDM, DSEAR/ATEX, and water company technical standards.
• Mentor junior engineers, provide technical guidance, and oversee design quality reviews.
• Engage with clients, contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to drive efficient design delivery and resolve technical issues.
• Assist with project planning, estimates, scopes, and bid preparation for new work.
• Promote digital design approaches, innovation, standardisation, and low-carbon/energy-efficient solutions.

Our requirements

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership with the IET or equivalent.
• Demonstrable experience delivering electrical design in non-infrastructure (treatment works) water or wastewater projects within the UK.
• Strong understanding of LV/HV design principles, MCCs, instrumentation & control interfaces, functional safety, and process-driven electrical systems.
• Proficiency with electrical design software/tools such as Amtech/Trimble, AutoCAD, and digital collaboration platforms.
• Strong knowledge of relevant UK legislation, CDM, DSEAR/ATEX requirements, and water company specifications.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage packages of work independently.
• Minimum years of service : 5 years preferred 7 years.

Optional

• Experience on AMP7/AMP8 frameworks or direct engagement with UK water companies.
• Familiarity with ICA systems, SCADA integration, and telemetry standards.
• Understanding of energy efficiency assessments, carbon reduction strategies, and resilience planning for electrical systems.
• Experience supporting construction, installation, and commissioning stages.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead the electrical and ICA design for non-infrastructure water and wastewater treatment projects across the UK. You will be responsible for delivering robust, safe, and efficient electrical designs for treatment works, pumping systems, process equipment, and associated plant, working closely with multidisciplinary teams throughout the project lifecycle.
