Project Overview:

Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility.

This position is subject to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regulations at 10 CFR Part 810 (Part 810), which govern the transfer of hardware, materials, and technology to support the construction and operation of commercial nuclear power plants overseas.

Job Summary:

This role will support design development of civil and structural engineering designs for the project site by preparing studies, drawings, and evaluations, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. Work with other civil and structural engineers/designers and other technical disciplines in a team environment.

Major Responsibilities:

• Originate and check civil and structural deliverables of high complexity, including specifications, drawings, reports and calculations.
• Originate and execute requisitions, including scope of work and technical bid evaluation.
• Perform Interdisciplinary Design Checks (IDC)
• Support team members in DRN process.
• Interpret and verify industry standards, guidelines, and codes for project deliverables.
• Report design quantities compared to estimated quantities.
• Participate in project design/model reviews.
• Participate in constructability reviews.
• Review vendor information from subcontractors and integrate it into the design solution.
• Execute schedule requirements while maintaining a high degree of quality in work product.
• Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in executing work as an integrated team.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires master’s degree in engineering (Civil/Structural) and 8-10 years of relevant experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Basic Qualifications:

• Must be fluent in Polish and English.
• Must be authorized to live and work in the country without sponsorship.
• Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Work experience should emphasize the civil / site design of heavy industrial-type facilities. 
• Have a Poland Professional Engineering (PE) license in structural and construction specialty (to manage construction works).
• Familiar with the provisions of Eurocodes and industry standards and regulations.
• Must be familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Familiar with the methods of procurement and control of bulk materials.
• Ability to independently execute the detailed design drawings of civil and structural / site systems of high complexity.
• Ability to independently execute requisitions and familiar with Agile.
• Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings and specifications.
• Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally.
• Ability to resolve design issues with subordinates, other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client.
• Ability to issue a clear and concise direction to subordinate designers and drafters.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Construction field experience will be an advantage.
• Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ISO-9000 and/or NQA-1.
• Familiarity with the provisions of AASHTO, ASTM, ACI will be an advantage.
• Familiar with Bechtel standard programs.
• Familiar with all Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs) and their application to projects.
• Knowledge of design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPS).
