Senior .NET Engineer with strong MS SQL experience

We are seeking a Senior .NET Engineer to redesign and modernize our data archiving and data presentation strategy for a high-volume sensor monitoring system. In this role, you will re-architect how years of incoming telemetry data are stored, archived, and queried, ensuring seamless, high-performance UI visualizations without disrupting existing data ingestion pipelines. 

What project we have for you

QIMS (Quality Information Management System) is a business-critical platform used by a global manufacturing organization to support laboratory operations, quality control processes, and production decision-making. The system integrates data from laboratory instruments and enterprise applications, providing quality management and reporting capabilities across multiple manufacturing sites. 

Following a comprehensive assessment, the organization launched a multi-year modernization and performance improvement program focused on increasing platform reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency. The program includes application modernization, database optimization, reporting enhancements, observability implementation, technical debt reduction, and adoption of modern engineering practices.

What you will do

• Storage & Archiving Architecture: Redesign the cold/hot data storage strategy for historical sensor telemetry (transitioning from monolithic SQL Server tables to partitioned, compressed, or specialized storage). 

• Data Access & Presentation Layer: Optimize .NET APIs and data fetching logic to ensure good query performance for frontend dashboards and historical data visualization over large time spans. 

• Background Data Pipelines: Design and build resilient, high-throughput .NET background services (Worker Services, Hangfire, etc.) for automated data aggregation, downsampling, and archiving without locking active tables. 

• Database Optimization: Configure table partitioning, Columnstore indexes, or introduce secondary time-series/analytical databases (e.g., ClickHouse, TimescaleDB, Parquet/S3) where appropriate. 

• Integration: Ensure seamless backward compatibility with existing data ingestion workflows while adapting the Data Access Layer (DAL) to transparently query multi-tiered storage. 

What you need for this

Technical Expertise

• Core Stack: 5+ years of experience with C# / .NET (.NET 8/9), ASP.NET Core Web API, and background/worker services. 

• SQL & Data Engineering: Advanced experience with MS SQL Server (query optimization, execution plans, indexing strategies, partitioning, Columnstore indexes, and archiving techniques). 

• Data Access Frameworks: Deep knowledge of Entity Framework Core, Dapper, or custom ADO.NET implementations tuned for maximum read/write performance. 

Architecture & Design

• Experience optimizing read performance for complex data visualization tools, charts, and reporting dashboards. 

• Strong understanding of asynchronous programming, multithreading, and batch processing in .NET. 

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience with specialized time-series or columnar databases (e.g., ClickHouse, TimescaleDB, InfluxDB, Apache Parquet). 

• Familiarity with distributed messaging/queuing systems (e.g., RabbitMQ, Kafka, Azure Service Bus). 

• Knowledge of cloud storage solutions (Azure Blob Storage, AWS S3) for long-term data archiving.
