Sr. Manager Content Strategy & Operations
Kalkomey
Kalkomey Enterprises is a trusted guide to outdoor success, delivering education that powers responsible outdoor recreation. The Senior Manager of Content Operations leads the production center responsible for creating, revising, and maintaining the company's full content catalog, including digital courses, manuals, guides, presentations, printed regulatory publications, informational pamphlets, maps, and other formats.
About this opportunity
The Senior Manager leads a multidisciplinary team of editors, graphic designers, print fulfillment staff, and a flex-pool of creative resources. The role ensures content is produced on time, on brand, and at scale while continuously improving workflows, quality standards, and team capability. The leader partners closely with the Senior Manager of Program Delivery and the broader Commercial team to align content output with client objectives and organizational priorities.
You thrive on a backlog of 30 content requests, new builds, course revisions, printed instruction guides, and digital adaptations. You are passionate about digital learning, love the craft of content creation, and obsess over finding smarter ways to do it. You believe AI is a creativity enabler and quality multiplier. You are organized yet flexible, fast yet meticulous, and bring enough creative energy to keep the work alive even when volume is high.
You must reside in one of these US states: AZ, CO, FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, MA, MD, MI, MN, NC, NV, OR, PA, RI, TX, VA, VT, WI, or in the Canadian province of Ontario.
What you'll do
- Lead and manage the full content operations function, including editorial, graphic design, print fulfillment, learning and experience design, and the flex pool.
- Design and optimize production workflow across all content tracks: new course builds, live course revisions, print production, and digital asset creation.
- Establish and enforce content quality standards, adhere to brand guidelines, and maintain editorial governance across all projects and client programs.
- Manage capacity planning and build a flexible staffing model—internal team, contract writers and designers, and AI-assisted production—to scale with demand.
- Partner with Client Program Managers and the Senior Manager of Program Delivery to scope content requirements, set timelines, and align on deliverables.
- Oversee development of content strategy, including messaging frameworks, content calendars, and channel strategies that drive measurable client outcomes; optimize content based on audience insights and performance data.
- Lead the team's adoption of AI tools for content drafting, editing, formatting, layout, and adaptation across formats.
- Build a culture of experimentation—small tests, fast learning, smart scaling of what works.
- Implement and manage content operations technology, including digital asset management systems, project management tools, and production platforms.
- Track and report on content production metrics, including throughput, quality scores, turnaround times, and resource utilization.
- Foster a collaborative, creative team culture that values innovation, continuous learning, and professional development.
- Create an environment where high volume and high quality are not in conflict.
- Manage the content operations budget, ensuring cost‑effective delivery without compromising quality.
What you'll need
- 7+ years of experience in content production, editorial operations, or learning development, with at least 3 years in a management role.
- Hands‑on, current experience with AI content tools—used daily, not occasionally, and opinionated about what works.
- Experience running high‑volume, multi‑track production environments—comfortable with 10+ concurrent projects across different formats and stages.
- Strong project management discipline; proved ability to build or significantly improve a production workflow.
- Direct experience managing multi‑format content: digital courses, print publications, instructional materials—across multiple formats.
- Eye for quality across both content and design—recognizing when something looks off and how to fix it.
- Familiarity with instructional design principles and learning standards (SCORM, xAPI, accessibility) is a strong plus.
- Experience implementing and managing content operations tools and digital asset management systems.
- Technically comfortable—able to work alongside engineering without intimidation.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
